Coming up with ideas for social media posts can sometimes be a challenging task, that’s why having a list of content ideas to refer to can be a helpful resource.

When sharing content with your audience you need to ensure you have a good balance between value and salesy posts. No one wants to be sold to 24/7 so we encourage you to adopt the 80/20 rule.

What's the 80/20 rule?

This is where 80% of your posts provide value to your audience. Value can be presented through the likes of helpful and informative information (for examples tips and tricks on how to take care of your car) value can also be entertainment (for example memes).

The other 20% should be posts that specifically drive sales.

Not sure what type of content to post? This blog will provide you with some simple ideas to get started.

10 simple content ideas

  1. Meet the team - humanise your brand by showing your audience the people behind it. You can do this by sharing a photo of a team member and including a write up on them – include things like what their role is at your dealership, what they like best about working in your team and what they like to do outside of work.
  2. Behind the scenes - customers like to see the process of how you run your business so show them what you're up to behind the scenes. For example, you can show your customers how you source stock and what’s involved in doing what you do. Here are a few ideas:
    • share photos / videos of purchasing new stock (post a poll asking if customers want to see new selections and then share vehicles you have chosen).
    • share photos / videos of team bonding events (dinners), celebrations (no. of years in business, team members birthdays etc)
  1. Customer testimonials - received some great reviews or testimonials? Sharing these across your social media accounts is a great way to enhance trust in your audience and increase the likeliness of them choosing your dealership to purchase from in future. It can also push those currently looking at purchasing a vehicle at that time further down the sales funnel.
  2. Informative information - sharing knowledge and helpful tips is a great way to build trust with customers. When a prospect trusts you, they are more likely to choose you in their line up when purchasing their next vehicle. Offering valuable information is also a great way to grow your audience as more people will want to follow your page to receive your helpful information.
  3. Stock
    • share photos and videos of vehicles you have in stock. Show special features and benefits that make the vehicle stand out.
    • Introduce a 'Pick of The Week' where you share a vehicle, its features, benefits and try target it towards a certain persona / demographic. For example, if a family SUV has leather seats - highlight the benefit of being able to clean the seats after little ones spill things and make a mess.
  4. Answer a customer question - sit down with your team and collate a list of your frequently asked questions and start answering them across your social media channels.
  5. Memes – people love relatable memes! They're entertaining and encourage people to tag their friends in the comments (expanding the reach of your brand). Take some time to research car memes and share them across your socials. We recommend making them your own (change up the imagery and caption) and branding them with your logo and brand colours.
  6. Industry news - share interesting and relevant industry news such as upcoming car events, new technology and innovation.
  7. Discount or promotion - if you are running a promotion or discount be sure to share this with your followers.

Using Facebook and Instagram's features is a great way to boost engagement and increase the organic reach of your content. The more frequently you use these features, the better you'll crack the algorithm.

What are Facebook features? Newsfeed post, story post, lives, stickers in stories such as polls, questions, adding music, tagging location, time stamp, stickers, music etc, engaging with customers (liking or commenting). The more you use the better.

What are Instagram features? Timeline post, story post, reels, lives, stickers in stories such as location tag, tagging another Instagram account, questions, GIFs, music, reactions, polls, link, quiz, hashtags, time stamps etc, engaging with customers (liking or commenting).
